Harvard Glee Club Concerts

The Harvard Glee Club comes to Seattle this winter: January 4 and 5, 2014.

In Seattle for for the first time since 2008, the Harvard Glee Club will be performing two joint pieces with the Illumni Men's Chorale: Shenandoah and Lo How a Rose E'er Blooming, on Saturday, January 4, 2014 at 6:30 PM. They will also have treats from the Renaissance, the Classical era, the Romantic era, the Modern era, a Spiritual, an African folk song, an American folk song, and new commissions made specifically for Harvard Glee Club on tour. This is the only chance to hear a full Glee Club concert in Seattle. Please purchase tickets here and consider sponsoring the concert by donating here.

About Illumni: llumni Men's Chorale is the latest chorale sensation! Their unique approach to programming and fundraising has landed them on America's Got Talent, and an interview with CNN Headline news.

With a range that extends far beyond the normal bass and soprano range, the group is able to approach many kinds of varying repertoire.

The group ranges in age from 20 to 86, performs throughout the Pacific Northwest, and has been heard on National television and radio.

On Sunday, January 5th 2014, at 5:00 PM, they will sing the Evensong service at St. Mark’s Cathedral (Episcopal) in Seattle and perform The Magnificat by Richard Shephard in addition to chants and polyphony from Josquin and Viadana. There is no charge and no RSVP required for the Sunday, January 5th performance.

We’ll also have an opportunity to host Glee Clubbers for the night of Sunday, January 5th (pick up at St. Mark’s after the concert, and drop off in the U district next morning).

If you think you might be willing to host a Glee Club student, or have questions about hosting, please contact Dana Birkby ’81 (danabirkby@outlook.com, danab@microsoft.com, or 425-273-0927).

A personal note from Dana: I recently had the pleasure of hearing the Glee Club under Harris Ipock (as well as a revivified Princeton group) in Cambridge on October 25th. Do not miss this year’s group!
