Co-sponsor with HBS Club of Puget Sound and MIT Club of Puget Sound

Join us for this very special event and a chance to meet MIT’s Jonathan Byrnes, who will speak on his highly-acclaimed book, Islands of Profits in a Sea of Red Ink, which was named an Inc. Magazine Best Book for Business Owners.

Jonathan Byrnes (HBS DBA ’80) will speak about his award-winning book, Islands of Profit in a Sea of Red Ink, which was named a Best Book by Inc Magazine. Byrnes is a very popular Senior Lecturer at MIT, where he has taught at the graduate level and in executive programs for over 20 years. He wrote a widely-read monthly column on managing profitability, called “The Bottom Line”, in Harvard Business School’s Working Knowledge e-newsletter for over four years. Byrnes is past president of the Harvard Alumni Association and is a director of Harvard Magazine.

Jonathan Byrnes is an acknowledged authority on profitability management. His extensive experience spans virtually every industry, including healthcare, transportation, software, retail, financial services, distribution, manufacturing, and others.

Islands of Profit in a Sea of Red Ink explores an astonishing but true fact: nearly 40 percent of every company is unprofitable by any measure, and 20 to 30 percent is so profitable that it provides all the reported earnings and subsidizes the losses.
Savvy managers worldwide are now using the state of the art big data analytics and practices introduced in this landmark book to rethink strategy, and in the process are developing fresh approaches to customers relations, operations, and metrics.

Dr. Byrnes is founder and chairman of Profit Isle, a trusted partner to several public and private businesses, large and small, combining state of the art analytics and change management to accelerate the profitability of tens of billions of dollars of annual revenues.
