We invite all alumni of the college and graduate schools join us for a fantastic hike to the West Point Lighthouse on the beach in Discovery Park.

Discovery Park is a 534 acre natural area park operated by the Seattle Parks and Recreation. The largest city park in Seattle is situated on Magnolia Bluff overlooking Puget Sound and offers spectacular views of both the Cascade and the Olympic Mountain ranges.

The hike is about 3 miles roundtrip with a 200 foot elevation loss down to the beach.
The trails are well maintained with steps on the steeper parts of the trail.
Low tide will be at 11:40am so the strand should stretch out about 100 yards from the beach and there should be small tidepools to explore.
Please plan on about 3 or 4 hours total to allow time for the hike both ways, some exploration, a picnic lunch, and the beautiful views.
Suggestions for what to bring:
• Waterproof, comfortable hiking shoes
• Extra layers in case it’s windy at the beach
• Sunscreen in case it’s sunny at the beach
• Picnic lunch
• Water
We will hike rain or shine. Stay as long as you like. There is plenty of parking, and a metro bus that goes to park entrance.
The exact meeting point will be emailed the day before the hike.
