Join fellow Harvard alumni for a rare opportunity to hear from Professor Jill Lepore, one of the University's most acclaimed and high-profile faculty.
In her new book We the People, Harvard professor Jill Lepore offers a new history of the U.S. Constitution—one of the oldest, and hardest to amend, in the world. Drawing on her original research from the Amendments Project, Lepore explores why nearly all attempts to change the Constitution have failed.
She argues that the founders intended the Constitution to evolve through democratic amendment, rather than judicial rulings or executive power. At a time of deep political division, Lepore challenges originalism and calls for a renewed belief in constitutional change through civic engagement and public debate.
Published ahead of the nation’s 250th anniversary, We the People asks whether we still have the will—and the tools—to shape a more perfect union.
Harvard Club of Seattle members who register for the event can meet at the bar in Town Hall at 6:30 pm.
